| The Dental Department on board the USS BUSHNELL
has the facilities for rendering most phases of dental treatment. The
dental facilities are similar to a small civilian dental clinic. There are
enough dental supplies carried on board to last six months.
Our mission is to provide dental services to all the personnel of the BUSHNELL and activities attached to SUBRON TWELVE which includes about 2100 people. Priority treatment is rendered to submarine personnel during upkeep of their ships. To accomplish this service, we have on board three complete operating rooms and a dental prosthetic laboratory for crown and bridge, dentures and denture repairs. An X-Ray and Dental Hygiene room are also provided. Over 10,000 visits and more than 50,000 dental procedures are recorded annually. The Dental Department aboard the BUSHNELL is composed ot three Dental Officers. Six Dental technicians and two strikers. CDR T.C. PABLOS, head of the department has a Pharmacy-degree from the University of Puerto Rico and a DDS degree from Marquette University in Wisconsin. Most recently he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, an honor which few dentists attain. LT. R. HANSEN attended the University of Wisconsin and also has a DDS degree from Marquette University. He also has had previous service with the 2nd Marine Air Wing as an aerophotographer during the Korean War. LT. F.R. SCHOLL graduated with a B.S. Degree from Moravian College in Bethlehem, Penn. There he played college golf and was selected for Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities in 1955. He obtained his DDS degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Very competently assisting the doctors are W.C. KING, DTC, a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High in South Carolina. He completed Hospital Corps School and Dental Tech School at Bainbridge, Md. DT1 R.J. GUTHERMAN received his diploma from Clementon High in New Jersey. He completed U.S. Naval Dental Tech School, Great Lakes and Dental Repair, NDS, Bethesda, Md. DT1 J. OLSON attended high school and is a graduate of General Dental Tech and Class C Dental Prosthetics School. DT2 H.S. SMITH graduateed from high school and completed General Tech and Prosthetic schools. DT2 S.R. HIXON completed high school and General Tech School. DN L.E. SEITZER graduated from high school and attended Clarion State Teachers College. He also completed General Tech School. The two strikers have both attended high school and have been accepted for the April class of General Tech School at San Diego. They are J.P. MURPHY, SN and J.H. COOPER, SN.
